What Are Your Options for Invisible Braces?

Did you know anyone with braces when you or they were a kid? You probably heard all the jokes — and maybe even told some of them: “What kind of music do kids with braces listen to?” “Heavy metal.”

All jokes aside, one of the most uncomfortable and regrettable things about braces is how obvious and, to some eyes, ugly they can appear in your mouth. Believe it or not, though, today you can get all the benefits of braces in Temple without having to wear ugly braces or put up with the jokes. Now, there are options for invisible braces in NE Calgary. That includes Invisalign but isn’t limited to Invisalign. Here’s an introduction to three options for invisible (or nearly invisible) braces near you.

Invisalign

Invisalign moves your teeth into their proper position using clear aligners made of a thermoplastic material that contains no metal parts. The thermoplastic material that fits snugly to your teeth is transparent and, as long as you keep them clean and look after your teeth properly, will be invisible throughout your entire treatment plan.

Clear or ceramic braces

Clear and ceramic braces from a dentist in Temple work in exactly the same way as traditional wire and metal braces except that the brackets that are cemented to your teeth are not made of metal. Instead, they’re made of clear materials or ceramic materials that blend with the colour of your teeth. The archwires between those brackets will still be made of metal, and your treatment plan may still require elastics between some of those brackets so it’s a stretch to say that clear or ceramic braces are invisible, but they’re a lot more subtle than traditional metal braces.

Lingual braces

Lingual braces are also known as Damon braces. Whatever you call them, though, they’re also very similar to traditional wire and metal braces and in fact, work exactly the same way. The huge difference between traditional and lingual braces, though, is where you find them. Lingual braces are placed on the back, inside or reverse side of your teeth rather than the front of your teeth. That placement offers the huge advantage of being invisible to outside observers. On the other hand, they tend to be less comfortable than traditional braces because of the increased risk that your tongue will rub up against them. That can make it a bit more difficult to speak clearly, too — especially while getting used to wearing braces in the first place, though that gets easier with time.

There was a time when wearing braces was something consigned to the awkward years of childhood and adolescence. Today, though, more and more adults and even seniors are speaking to their dentist in NE Calgary about how to achieve their dreams of straighter teeth at any age.

Crooked and misaligned teeth can not only detract from your preferred appearance, self-image and confidence, but they can also cause tooth and jaw pain, complicate oral hygiene, increase the risk of tooth decay and even require tooth extraction to avoid overcrowding and more complex dental issues.

Whatever your age and your motivation for wanting straighter teeth, don’t let the assumption that wearing braces will be a sight for all to see stand in your way. A dentist near you will explain all your options for undergoing discrete and subtle orthodontic treatment that helps you to achieve all your goals.

And that’s no joke!
